Allina has one of the most comprehensive electronic medical record systems in the nation. Our electronic medical record system enhances how we deliver your care:
Timely access to your medical information – With the click of a mouse, caregivers can see your complete medical history, giving them immediate, easy access to your information.
Immediate safety checks – The system automatically cross-checks your allergies and current medications with any new prescriptions being considered. Your caregiver will immediately know if there is a potential drug or allergy interaction and can order a different medicine without delay.
Quicker access to test results – Your caregiver is notified by e-mail when test results have been added to your electronic medical record, eliminating the need for test results to travel from the lab.
Providing information once – Because each Allina facility has access to this information, you only need to provide your information once, saving time and eliminating hassle.
Electronic medical records: Questions and answers
Caroline Toll, MD, answers questions about the use of electronic medical records.
An electronic medical record is a computerized version of your paper medical record. It includes all the information needed to care for you, such as your medical history (allergies, medications, test results and other pertinent information), as well as your contact and insurance information.
Our electronic medical record system can help improve the quality of your care. One electronic medical record will provide your Allina caregivers a more complete picture of your medical history at Allina.
Having one electronic medical record will help improve the quality and safety of your care. For example, Allina's electronic medical record system has tools to immediately alert your doctor if he/she prescribes a medication that may interact with your allergies and/or current medications.
You need to provide your medical history, insurance and contact information at your first visit so that we can enter it into your electronic medical record. At future visits, all you need to do is confirm that your information is up-to-date.
Electronic medical records allow your doctors to immediately review and update your medical records at any of the Allina hospitals and clinics you visit. Information in your medical record may be printed for you to take to a non-Allina clinic or hospital.
