Experience and history — full service cardiac care in your community since 1985

  • 1989: The first open-heart surgery was performed at Mercy, ushering in the beginning of angioplasty and cardiac surgery.
  • 1990: The Wellness Van, operated jointly by Mercy & Unity Hospitals and area Lions and Lioness Clubs, begins sending health care professionals into the community to identify and educate people at risk for diabetes, heart disease and hypertention.
  • 1993: Electrophysiology services are added at Mercy to diagnose and treat faulty heart rhythms.
  • 1995: Mercy adds a Chest Pain Evaluation Unit to the emergency department.
  • 1996: The Heart Center building opens at Mercy Hospital.
  • 2004: The expansion of the Heart Center is completed.
